My husband pegged it; we are lazy hosts. When you walk in, we'll invite you to make yourself at home - and explicitly let you know that we will not be waiting on you! You want a coffee? Please, truly, help yourself! The motivation behind our hosting style is two-fold:
1) We want people to be comfortable. We can't anticipate every need, so we want people to feel that the environment is open enough that they can state their wants.
2) We want to be with our guests! I don't want to be fussing in the kitchen; I want to be hanging out, too! With served's Pitcher, I can mix up a batch of drinks ahead of time and be able to sit and enjoy with you. Total win.
Here's a recipe for a fall sangria from the very talented @darinamakes. It checks all of the boxes: it's yummy, it's easy, and it's festive!
Ingredients:
- 3 cups (24 oz) apple cider
- 1 cup (8 oz) orange juice
- 1 bottle (750 ml) prosecco, chilled (or 3 cups sparkling water for a non-alcoholic version)
- 1 apple, thinly sliced
- 1 orange, thinly sliced into rounds
Garnish:
- 8 cinnamon sticks
- 8 star anise pods
Cinnamon-sugar rim:
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions:
- Add the sliced apple and orange to the pitcher.
- Pour in the apple cider and orange juice and stir gently.
- Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or up to 4 hours, so the fruit can infuse.
- Just before serving, top with the chilled prosecco or sparkling water and stir gently to keep the bubbles.
- For the rim, mix the sugar and cinnamon on a small plate. Run the orange wedge around the rim of each glass, then dip the rim in the cinnamon sugar.
- Fill the glasses with ice, pour in the sangria with some fruit, and garnish each one with a cinnamon stick and a star anise pod.
